世界食料デー（World Food Day, 10月16日）は、世界の食料問題を考える日として、国連が制定した国際デーであり、世界中で非常に活発な取組みが見られる国際デーの一つです。150に及ぶ国々に於いて50以上の言語により、何百ものイベントや取組みが開催され、政府や民間セクター、市民社会、メディア、そして若者を含む一般の人々がこの日に集います。加えて、この日は国連食糧農業機関（FAO）が創立された1945年10月16日を記念する日でもあります。FAOは飢餓に苦しむ人々を含め、誰一人取り残すことなく、全ての人が健康的な食事をとれるよう、世界的な認識と行動を促します。
2026年の世界食料デーは「Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow. （今日のイノベーションが、明日の食を支える。）」をテーマに掲げています。
ここでの「イノベーション」とは、新たな科学技術の開発だけではなく、小規模農家や女性農業者の経験、地域社会に受け継がれてきた知識や実践、若者の創造力など、多様な知見を活かし、それらを必要とする人々へ届けることを指します。さらに、有望な解決策を政策、資金、制度、パートナーシップを通じて普及・拡大していくことが重要です。今日のイノベーションを明日の食料安全保障と持続可能な未来につなげることが、今年の世界食料デーのメッセージです。
本イベントはFAOが主催し、FAOと同じくローマに本部を置く国連機関である国連世界食糧計画（WFP）、国際農業開発基金（IFAD）および横浜市立西柴中学校の協力、そして日本の外務省と農林水産省の後援の下で開催されます。

World Food Day 2026 Japan Event "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow"
World Food Day is celebrated on 16 October in more than 150 countries, promoting awareness of hunger and inspiring action for the future of food, people, and the planet. World Food Day 2026 marks the annual global campaign under the theme "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.", a call to harness the power of science, technology, and innovation, alongside traditional knowledge, to build agrifood systems that nourish people today and protect the resources future generations depend on. The day also commemorates the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 16 October 1945. FAO promotes global awareness and action to ensure that no one is left behind and that everyone, including those affected by hunger, has access to healthy diets.FAO’s World Food Day 2026 theme, “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow”, calls on us to harness human ingenuity to change this. That means developing new technologies and approaches, while also sharing knowledge, adapting proven innovations, and ensuring they are adopted, financed and scaled to reach the people who need them most.
Progress draws on the wisdom of farmers, including women farmers and smallholders, the traditional knowledge of Indigenous Peoples, the creativity of young people, the innovative work of scientists and researchers, and the determination of communities striving for a better future. World Food Day 2026 calls for powerful new innovations, sustained investment, and partnerships that move proven solutions from promise to practice.
The event will be organized by FAO, in cooperation with UN agencies based in Rome, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and World Food Program (WFP), and Yokohama Municipal Nishishiba Junior High School with the patronage from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF). The program will feature presentations from the participating UN agencies, followed by a discussion session.
